How does reading novels affect a life?
A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, the man who never reads live only one.
As an avid reader, I can tell you it's true.
Some people argue that what help does fictional stories and characters do to increase our knowledge in comparison to non-fiction books that are subject oriented.
But I beg to differ.
A story has the capacity to move minds which a normal book can never do.
Even when I was child studying in school, I was always drawn to the lessons which were delivered in the form of stories.
Reading Novels makes a person more empathetic.
Even for the people we don't know, just by reading their story in the form of a novel, we get to know that there are a lot of people who suffer from hell lot of things.
For eg After reading THE KITE RUNNER and A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS by Khaled Hosseni I got to know a lot about the lives of people in Afghanistan.
I am not saying that every novel is just truth laid out, but reading those things makes us feel that there is a lot going on in the world.
Reading is an escape for me, from the reality.
Every one has their own share of problems in their life and reading novels is an escape for me for a while and at the same time it gives me strength to face them.
If a character in book can overcome it then I can also overcome it.
My reading speed has also increased substantially.
Because while reading a novel, I want to get to the end so fast to the story that I end up in finishing any novel I pick up in 2–3 days no matter how many pages it has.
So yeah, my reading speed is good.
Even I can read bidding documents really fast now.
Because of my reading habit.
After every book I read, I write a summary in my diary of the lessons I learnt from that novel.
This habit has helped me a lot.
So after reading 300–400 pages of a novel , I introspect the affect that book had on me and put it in about 100 words in my diary.
I can go on and on about the affect of novel reading on our lives but I think these are the main ones that came into my mind when I saw this question
I was not a reader in my school time, but when I came to college I have started reading books, and It affects my imagination and point towards this beautiful life.
Novel reading change the perception towards the life, I have read one quote of JRR MARTIEN that
Reading habit is bliss, for one man can live a thousand lives.
You may have heard this a billion times that reading is very important in one's life.
And yes, it's absolutely correct.
A novel lets you escape into a world of imagination.
It is rightly said, "We lose ourselves in story, we find ourselves there too.
reading habit of reading have benefit like.
Thank you for reading.
Well, do not be fooled by the easy contours of this question.
It is a pretty tough one.
The impact that reading novels can have on someone’s life is really hard to understand.
I have been reading since I was around 10 years old.
And it has been an enriching experience for me.
It allowed me to improve my English, my vocabulary, helped me do better in my studies and much more.
But I consider these the small benefits.
The best things I achieved from reading novels were greater than those.
Reading novels gave me imagination.
As a child I could just leave my worries behind and embark onto a journey where things ended happily ever after.
Atleast most of the times.
Reading helped me build my character.
Every hero of the story I read, whether it was male or female, a child or an adult, inspired me to be more like them.
Inspired me to do something good as well.
It also helped me make friends.
There is nothing like a Bestseller to build a bond between 2 people.
Just pick a novel and there will be so many people who can just talk to you endlessly about it.
But the best change that reading brought in my life was the passion for writing.
I am not a famous author or a well known blog writer.
I just like to pen down my feelings sometimes or the things that I can imagine.
And that gives me immense satisfaction.
But reading novels can have bad effects too.
Sometimes you get so lost in the imaginary world that you start ignoring the real world.
You are stuck in your own head with the characters, which prevents you from living fully with the real people around you.
Also, as I said before, characters can inspire you.
But such inspiration is not always positive.
It may sometimes motivate you to do something wrong as well.
So, reading novels is actually a very tricky business.
You have to do it right to get the profits.
But I believe that if a person can daw the line between fiction and reality and can differentiate between right and wrong, it is a great thing to do and can bring a lot of positivity in your life.
This is very important question.
Deep question indeed !!
For readers, reading is humanity in true sense, and thousands of well circulated quotes on internet regarding goods and bests of reading proves that.
Reading affects LIFE, as words have the power to change the whole outlook and perception mapping of any thinking person.
Real Readers also adds that reading fiction is very different from reading non-fiction and Reading short stories is totally different process from reading Novels.
Great writer D.
Lawrence wrote, “The novel is the one bright book of life.
Books are not life.
They are only tremulations on the ether.
But the novel as a tremulation can make the whole man alive tremble.
Chesterton's quote “People wonder why the novel is the most popular form of literature; people wonder why it is read more than books of science or books of metaphysics.
The reason is very simple; it is merely that the novel is more true than they are.
As your question says, LIFE, we have to understand that even one moment is important in life.
When you read, you INVEST or LOST your millions of moments in the process of reading and so most important question is about the outcome of your reading process, the feeling of TIME INVESTED or TIME LOST.
And then we read this quote by same author Gilbert K.
Chesterton, "A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.
" This is actually a powerful observation and very important to understand.
People read, and people invest/lost time in reading GOOD or BAD work of writers.
Here the point is GOOD Novel and BAD Novel.
and here I will relate this with Time Invested and Time wasted, Definitely, this points towards Good or bad affect on LIFE.
Now take different scenarios, and imagine the probable thought process.
reader is reading romantic novel / erotic novel / Science fiction / mythological novel / or novel promoting or depicting Political Power Abuse/ patriotism / freedom struggle etc.
Each of these and many many more genres, compel you mind to think about those words and stories both consciously and subconsciously.
So when there are millions of novels in market one must choose wisely, what to read.
Reader must think that whatever he will read, that must be an important INVESTMENT of his most precious treasure, TIME.
And For POSITIVE GAINS in LIFE, For POSITIVE THINKING, what to do and what not to do, what to read and what not to read is in our hand.
How does novel reading affect our life?
Ans :: Read positive, feel positive, think positive.
“I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.
” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
Do you know what experience does to you? It makes you.
Experiance dictates your thoughts and your thoughts are what you become.
No matter how insignificant an experience may seem , they make you who you will be.
Novels are just your simultaneous incarnation, you experiance the world in someonelse perspective.
And by reading novels you experience each and every moment of the characters you follow.
The way they feel, the way they act, the way they react, you experiance their thoughts.
And this experiance simply makes you better.
You question how a character' s experience, who does what the author tells him to do, might help you in any way?
A good novelist does not lead his characters, he follows them.
A good novelist does not create events, he watches them happen and then writes down what he sees.
A good philosopher will definitely change our life style, and
a novel is equal to a good philosopher.
Classical Novels which promote our morals and courageous enough by adventures like Ponniyin Selvan in Tamil.
After reading it, I am rejuvenated and take up new projects.
This essay by author Neil Gaiman, in the Guardian from 2013 is the very best explanation I've ever read for why reading and libraries are important.
