How do you know youre living

How do you know you’re living?

I survive through everything which takes my breath away.

Feeling alive is so much better than just living your life.
There are no ways to feel alive.
There are just moments when you feel grateful to be experiencing those moments and that is how you know.
During my college days, I used to do theater.
Whenever I used to step on stage, the energy around me just made me feel complete.
When the audience clapped and stayed after the show to congratulate me, compliment me, or just talk to me about my character, I felt alive.
Fully alive.
On the stage everything was beautifully furious and intense.
Performing for people who were eager to see my work made me feel alive.
Rehearsals were even better.
Teaching juniors was good and learning from directors was the best.
For me, Theater is the thing which makes me feel alive.
It's not like other things make me sad, music excites me, poetry inspires me, books teach me.
“I am in this moment, no one can take this away from me.
” This is how I feel alive.
Sometimes, when the breeze caress your face, you will feel alive or when you give a hungry child something to eat you will feel alive.
Sometimes, lying on bed and reading your favorite part of the book will make you feel alive, and sometimes the rush of blood you feel after climbing a mountain, you will feel alive.
Always explore and live the moment, I believe that is how you feel alive.

i seem to be living in a world of separated bodies with individual minds that can relate to one another through bodily faculties.
But nobody in this system can be at the same time and at the exact same place experiencing the same event with the same emotional reactions.
Every “body” has their own unique individual perceptions which often do not jive with the perception of others, causing conflict in various forms.
We are born in bodies, accompanied by pain, we grow up meeting the world on their terms, experience some joy, more often pain, we experience loss, the body grows old, starts to fail and then we die.
This sounds to more like a nightmare, a dream that has gone sour.
Why do we call it life when it ends in death? Is anyone here truly alive or are we dreaming? We cannot evaluate a system from inside itself.
Are we limited to the few means of communication such as mouth and ears? How come some feel that terrible things have happened to loved ones at the moment when it occurs? The feeling of a mother her child was just hurt in war or in an accident.
How about the experiences people had that leave the body behind for an instant only to return with wisdom that sounds dubious from this world's perception.
Why is this question even arising in the mind unless there is some doubt that this reality? More and more songs, another vehicle of communication, are starting to ask this question : Mako “Is this really real life”, R3HAB “we are hallucinations”.
RO, Ro, ro gently down the stream
Merrily merrily life is but a dream!

We probably can’t, because what it means to be “alive” is not well-defined.
To define what we mean by “alive” is extremely tricky because there are lots of organisms that exist on this crazy planet that you might want to say are alive but won’t fit many definitions you could imagine.
And if your definition is too loose, lots of things you don’t want to be alive will be.
Let’s try to define alive.
We can certainly lay down a few necessary conditions for being alive.
Here is one that seems necessary to me at first glance:
But see, we already hit a snag because viruses don’t appear to do anything to maintain their out-of-equilibrium state.
Unless they are in one of your cells, so does that mean viruses are alive sometimes but not others? Well, really it was your infected cells that are keeping themselves out-of-equilibrium.
Argh! Maybe viruses aren’t alive then.
Here is another “necessary” condition:
Yes, there are things that you might consider not alive that fit these necessary conditions – like your computer.
Your computer is actually a fairly sophisticated computational device that can sense its environment and do things.
So are computers alive but viruses are not?
Again, robots can reproduce themselves (in principle) and many people choose not to.
So this seems like a poor definition.
But “think” is not well-defined either.
Beyond this, your heart doesn’t think so that means your heart isn’t alive? Only your brain is alive? But is one brain cell alive? Is a sperm cell alive? An egg cell? A fertilized egg cell? Two cells? How many cells do you need to be alive? Now we’re getting into some pretty unclear and even politically dangerous territory.
So how do we conclusively know we are alive? Whatever definition of alive we will choose, we will always make sure we humans fit that definition.
We will make sure all animals and plants do.
We will make sure our body parts from cells on up are alive (probably).
I don’t know what that definition will ultimately be but I sure know that we will conclusively qualify.

Awareness.
like walking down a path,we know we are walking but are not aware of our leg movements.
Its become a reflex.
same goes for being alive and being aware of being alive.
when you focus on your walking you discover the control and awareness of your movements.
Being more alive.
We feel more alive when we take risks, which leads to elevated awareness of our core being, being influenced by the said risk.
Like on an adventure trip.
For example hiking, we feel the stuggle of breathing, stuggle to push our muscles for an extra mile etc.
We became aware of our bodies, its limits and the control we have over it and in these moments compared to ordinary daily lives we feel more alive.
When we see change within ourselves.
Every now and then we have these insights fueled by our core desires to evolve and expand our self being in form of clarity or depths.
Which helps us to identify ourselves in bigger and better scales.
When we see the gaps within the details of our moments and the truths they hold about us.
These clarities and depths helps us to change and make us feel a movement in terms of our spiritual being.
A raw emotion of movement and the excitement of a changed/new person.
In a state of elvevated senses.
Like when we fall in love with a person we also fall in love with many other things(nature, existence etc)When we absorb and emit more than ordinarily.
We are more aware of our emotions in such moments.
So you see, being more alive is basically being more aware of our bodies, our emotions and our spiritual being in the acts we do.
As for being totally alive,i think its only possible in the face of death.
The raw awareness of existence against non existence.

Biologically, when can check the symptoms of living like heart beat, cell division, neural activity etc.
But if we are not talking biology then we can’t be so sure.
There are so many theories like-”simulation hypothesis” according to which we are possibly programs, collection of zeroes and ones.
A famous mathematician/philosopher Rene Descartes also wondered about his own existence.
He then came up with his famous
" Cogito Ergo sum " ( In English : I Think , Therefore I am ).
Its a compacted form of
"dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum" (In English : "I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am" )
What he meant is that his ability to Doubt about his existence is the proof that he exists.
He reasoned that if he is doubting about his existence then that means there is some one somewhere in the universe who is doing the doubting.

If you are interested then check out such theories and ideas and you might find out what you are looking for.

I was recently in the most intense car accident I have had so far.
I unintentionally drove off a cliff (my vehicle fell at least 10 feet, barely missing several trees and a few large chunks of concrete) due to someone cutting me off and my brakes failing to engage properly.
The whole experience was surreal, but what brought me back to reality was when I realized, upon exiting the vehicle, that I was standing in a grove of poison oak.
Out of the pot and into the frying pan, I suppose.
As I am highly allergic to poison oak, I am thankful I am alive and that I suffered only a quick bloody nose from the airbag and a very minimal poison oak rash.
The idea here is that people often question reality and our existence,
until they are faced with a different question:
“Am I thankful for the reality I live in?”

Do you mean the body or spirit? The body will get sooner or later wear down but the spirit is timeless.
A part of the energy associated with our bodies expresses itself as a mass in the form of atoms, molecules, biomolecules, cells, tissues, organs, and bodies.
The other energetic part remains invisible to our senses and detectors.
It does not mean that invisible energy is not present, we just usually do not feel it.
Everyone can after some training start to feel it.
Kirlian photography is capable to visualize energy associated with living bodies into a great detail.
It clearly demonstrates that vital energy is different from the body.
When you cut off a part of the leaf of a living flower Kirlian photography displays energy even in cutter pet of the leaf.
Because I do feel and even see energies accompanying and animating bodies of all living creatures, it is impossible to miss it.
The lack of vital energy is clearly visible in all bodies of dead creatures.
Actually, the amount of lacking energy can be used to estimate the remaining time till the death.
All living, healthy creatures are just shining on many energetic levels.
It is possible to directly feel and observe the fine energetic structures of the ‘veins' through which energy is feeding every single organism.
One level of energy, which is directly feeding the living bodies is easy to visualize by Kirlian photographs as can be seen in the following.
The pictures of soul/spirit are not possible to make in this way.

There are two approaches to life –
either do what the society demands and respects, and survive ;
Or do what you heart truely desires and loves, and thrive.

Either to just breath or live, the choice is in our hands;
Either to merely survive or thrive, we have the choice.
Choose wisely

Are you alive or just breathing?
Do you feel happiness when you see your mom happy?
Does your heart palpitate intensely when you see your crush/love?
DO you feel bad when you see something is going wrong but you are unable to react?
Do you get angry when the world is cruel to u ? Inequality?
Do you feel the urge to change this world ? Help someone who’s desperate ? Fill the world with hope ?
If yes, then you’re alive and not just breathing…
Many scientific reasons can make you feel alive.
But most importantly when your family, friends all your loved one's around you are happy, proud of you, respect you and love you with a pure heart, you are satisfied with your life, happy with yourself, bettered yourself from your yesterday, made progress in your life even at small levels, you feel most alive.
You need to make a connection between you and the outer world.

Kind of like suicide, you may be aware and why, yet once done, nothing.
You won’t even know if you succeeded.
Some living people just vegetate, fed intravenously and have assisted breathing.
Some people experience as many moments of their lives as the physiology, emotions, and mental fortitude will allow.
This is a continuum, where most, presumable, are, about, in the middle.
1) Where do you think you are on the continuum?
2) Where do you want to be?
3) How, oh, how, will your get there?
4) Are you willing to learn and do?
“Just Do It”
Most (all?) people are in a transition, either developing or decaying, mentally emotionally, physiologically and spiritually.
A developing person is taking inaction or many, while a decayer is being destroyed.
Sometimes the choice is not ours and usually it is.
See above.
I hoe your choice is to live because it’s a nice in lifetime experience.
We should not miss it.
Take care, we are all valuable.

Haha what does that even mean brother? I'm completely alive right now and I'm sure you were too while writing this question.
But if you are asking when will you live as a complete joyful person then keep searching and stay curious.
There is lot on quora, google and within you as well.
If you want to start your journey to live a exciting, blissful life today, then just PAY ATTENTION to everyone and everything around you without making any assumptions about surroundings with that little information you've gathered till now and stay CURIOUS enough.
I can guarantee One day you'll not be chasing such questions.

The correct question would be “How do I know I exist?”.
.
I got the same doubt a year ago, It’s quite normal actually.
I always thought that we may be in a computer program running since millions of years, programmed by an alien species, I also thought that we are just a thought.
Now, this question is also asked by a famous philosopher/mathematician

When I was born, I didn’t think much, and I didn’t know I was alive.
And that condition remain, say, till I was 6–7 years old.
So, I now know that for the first 6–7 years of my life, I didn’t realise that I was alive, I didn’t even understand what life is.
So to be alive, one does not need to be able to realise it.
Trees are alive, and they may not even know it.
I think now I’m alive, since I’m typing all these words in Quora, and also, I’m thinking.
But there remains, to be alive, one does not need to think.

I refuse to accept that I am just the body and brain.
If it’s just the body and brain, then body and brain can’t refuse that it’s just the body and brain.
If it’s not just the body and the brain, then I am not dependent on their existence to be alive.
So, I am still alive and will always be!

I am typing this answer right now.
If, after submitting it, it can be read by you, then I can say that I am definitely alive.
If not, then what the hell am I still doing with this laptop?!?!
I hope you can read this.

Let me know if you can’t.

“A man is convinced he is dead.
His wife and kids are exasperated.
They keep telling him he's not dead.
But he continues to insist he's dead.
They try telling him, "Look, you're not dead; you're walking and talking and breathing; how can you be dead?" But he continues to insist he is dead.

The doctor pulls out some medical books to demonstrate to the man that dead men do not bleed.
After some time, the man admits that dead men do not bleed.
The doctor then takes the man's hand and a needle and pokes the end of his finger.
The man starts bleeding.
He looks at his finger and says, "What do you know? DEAD MEN DO BLEED!"
